Adema: Hey what's up?

Raychul: Not much, you ready for the interview?

Adema: Yeah, cool.

Raychul: You play guitar in the band, correct?

Adema: Yup, I play guitar.

Raychul: So when did you guys get together?

Adema: It was about a year ago, about June last year.

Raychul: Okay, well I know that you came from a few different bands all kinda smashed together, right?

Adema: Yeah we did.

Raychul: I've heard Juice and...

Adema: Yeah Juice was the one that Dave and I were in, he was the bass player in Juice. Mark and Mikey were the original Adema. The name of the band was Adema but they had all different songs and the original members were all different. And then Chris of course came from Videodrone.

Raychul: What about the name of the band, do you know where that came from?

Adema: I know what it means, it's a medical term. It means slowing... Marky and them came up with the name or whatever.

Raychul: Okay what about touring, you've been with some pretty cool bands. Who do you play to go out with next?

Adema: Well, right now ya know we are with Staind. We are with Staind and Cold for a few more weeks then after that we go out with Disturbed for a little while.

Raychul: Haha, oh that should be fun.

Adema: Yeah, it's pretty cool.

Raychul: Do you have any videos in rotaion yet?

Adema: Actually we just shot a video for our first single. You've heard "Giving In" right?

Raychul: Yeah, actually that is my favorite song on the CD. I usually don't like the singles as much as the rest of the CD, but that is a really good song.

Adema: Yeah we just went to L.A. a few weeks ago to do that and we just saw it yesterday, it's awesome so we are excited about it.

Raychul: That's cool, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Are you planning any T.V. appearances for the near future?

Adema: The day before the album comes out (the 20th, album released on the 21st), we are going to be on the Craig Kilborn show.

Raychul: Oh really? not bad. Did you have any releases besides this one? ...anything idependently released?

Adema: Any records? No we didn't. Actually we got together ya know, it was like Mark and I at the beginning, then very quickly Dave came into it, then Mike, and we had a drummer to start, but we ended up with Chris. We actually, my whole point was that we were doing demos and stuff and not playing or anything, just writing songs. Then somehow a producer got ahold of a demo, and we got signed. We didn't actually play a show together til we got signed.

Raychul: Haha that's the way to do it!

Adema: Yeah it was awesome because all of us have played in bands for years. But this band just all came together nicely, it was great.

Raychul: I bet. So who do you think influences you the most, being a guitarist?

Adema: As a guitarist...uhhh, my greatest influence is probably Dimebag from Pantera. haha

Raychul: Haha , right on. What about as a musician in general, anything different? ..or still Dimebag?

Adema: Hahaha, ...ummmm, nope mostly him! I like all kinds of things but mostly for me I've always kinda been a dirt head.

Raychul: Hah that's cool. Well what about your live shows.... is there a song that you like anymore than the others?

Adema: Uhhhhhh, geez. Probably right now I like to play "Drowning". That's a good one, and "Do What You Wanna Do".

Raychul: Is there any particular message that you are trying to get across with your songs?

Adema: Well Marky writes all the lyrics actually but he writes about experiences. Mostly different things going on, not just about the same old shit. (a big sigh...). Haha excuse me, I just smoked out, hahaha , so I'm having trouble thinking here.

Raychul: Hahaha it's cool, take your time... I understand haha.

Adema: Well some is about relationships, his friends, life experiences, but it's not all crying either.

Raychul: So do you play any instruments besides the one you play in Adema (guitar)?

Adema: Well everyone in our band can play pretty much all of the instruments. They are really good at what they do in the band but we can all play everything. Ya know I played like trumbone, hahaha so we all have our talents. So I can't really jam on the trumbone anymore haha, but I'm trying to learn how to play the piano better.

Raychul: Yeah, that's cool

Adema: Not that we would ever use the piano, but I don't know there is just something about it, the piano. Something about learning the piano, it just seems like a challange to me. (laughing a lot!)

Raychul: When you guys write songs, is there anything that you go for? Or do you just let it flow?

Adema: Well we have a basic idea. I mean, well you listen to music right?

Raychul: Uhmmmm yeah! You must be really stone haha.

Adema: Yeah, obviously haha. Well when you are writing something its just like when you hear something for the first time, either you like it or it sucks. If I'm writing something and someone says "that really blows" haha then I'm probably going to think it does too.

Raychul: So a sort of simplistic look then I guess huh? It blows or it doesn't haha.

Adema: (laughing) Yeah, well we try to give it a chance and work with it a bit before we give it the big "it blows".

Raychul: What's the best part of being in a band.

Adema: The touring definately. Every one of us I think would say that.

Raychul: So has this been sort of a life time goal, like a dream?

Adema: Oh yeah. Growing up, like 5 years old, I remember picking up the tennis racket, listening to K.I.S.S. records and wishing I was in a band. I have been doing that my whole life. I'm 6'10" so I played basketball in college, and a lot of people thought I would do that. But I always wanted to do the band thing.

Raychul: Hmmmm well do you have any suggestions for people just starting out?

Adema: Yeah, the main one is to keep going, keep writing. The worst thing I ever did was be in a band where all the members weren't motivated, you have to have that. But do your own thing. I worked in gas stations for a while but I kept going. You just have to believe in yourself and not give up. If you love music you're all good.

Raychul: So what are you thoughts on today's music?

Adema: Right now, I would say that last year and a half it didn't seem like it was doing anything. Because like the last couple of years it seems like I've been listening to the same records over and over again ya know.

Raychul: Oh you mean like Dimebag?

Adema: Hahah yeah, now you are making fun of me! Yeah haha there is some new bands that I like. Uhmmm let me see if I can name one. Oh, I like Papa Roach's new album, Linkin Park's record is cool too, I like that a lot. There are a lot of bands that sound the same but I don't know where it will go from here.

Raychul: Well if they all sound the same, what is unique about your band?

Adema: Compared to everyone else? Nothing, I think we are all the same. haha no I'm kidding. I think that we just try to play well ya know. Uhm I think we just try to write good songs. Uhmmmm I'm trying to think. I know we are unique it's just hard finding the words. Damn... (can we say too much weed????) . Haha

Raychul: Let me rephrase that for ya haha, what sets you apart from everyone else?

Adema: I would say our singer. He is a little bit differnt so....

Raychul: Haha it's cool, everyone hates this question, that's why I ask!

Adema: Hah yeah it's hard because you never really think that way ya know. You just think you don't sound like anyone else. But I think that our singer Marky is really great and writes good lyrics. All of our songs sound different too. Have you heard the whole album.

Raychul: Yeah.

Adema: Well you know the song "The Way You Like It" which is kind of weird for us, then you have a song like "Drowning", so they are all a bit different. So versatility, that's what makes us different. We aren't reinventing shit ya know, we aren't like KoRn starting a whole new style of music, we just have a good sound and write good songs.

Raychul: Well what about some underground bands that you think deserve attention?

Adema: Damn, do you hear that squeaky thing?

Raychul: haha yeah I think that is my phone recorder.

Adema: Oh haha okay, I was just wondering what that was, so what was the last thing you said again?

Raychul: Like anyone from back where you are from, anyone who you don't think gets enough attention.

Adema: Let me think, there are a lot of underground bands around L.A., but I'm trying to think of some that I like. Uhmmm, (cough, caugh... hack hack).

Raychul: Damn you gotta quit smoking!

Adema: Well I don't smoke cigarettes. What do you expect? My favorite musician's name is Dimebag!

Raychul: Haha yeah exactly.

Adema: Let me think here, Void is pretty cool to watch. In Bakersfield there is, what the fuck is that band's name... they change their name like every other week. haha. I can't think of what the name is.

Raychul: Oh that's great for their promtion, a name is a good thing to stick with.

Adema: Hah yeah I know. They change members every other week so they have to have a new name. Well there is also a band called Anedrol (spelling?), they are pretty good too.

Raychul: Actually I think I've heard of them, or at least that name before.

Adema: They are pretty cool. But I hope that's still their name... they are the one in Bakersfield.

Raychul: haha well that's about it, unless you have anything else you want to add,... hmm like you love Dimebag or anything like that.

Adema: Hahah no, that'd quite alright. I just want to add thanks to everyone who supports us, that's it. Well I appreciate it. It was nice talking to you!

Raychul: You too. I'm sure I'll see you guys out on tour sometime.

Adema: Cool. Hopefully we will see you out on the road.

Raychul: Cool, I'll go up to the show and wear a big Dimebag shirt for you so you can recognize me!

Adema: Hahahah okay thank you. Good to talk to you Raychul!

Raychul: You too!

Adema: Alright bye.

Raychul: Bye.
